Teaching Experience

Dean rarely teaches now, as his time is spent writing and producing. His 25 years of teaching experience ranges from post-graduate supervision through to primary school, and across the arts, sciences and humanities. For 14 years, he taught script-writing for cinema, television, theatre and radio at The University of Hull, UK. In addition, he has taught adults returning to education, young offenders looking for a new start, and teachers aiming to hone their subject skills.

  Until 2017, Dean taught part-time at the University of Hull in the UK, where he had gained his PhD in 1999. During his 14 years as a lecturer there, he devised and delivered many modules and lectures in a number of departments, including: Drama, Languages and Creative Writing.

  While researching for his PhD, Dean worked as a Drama teacher in an independent girls' school. Here he taught A-Level Theatre Studies, Public Speaking and LAMDA Examination classes. He also directed and produced annual school productions involving more than 100 students and staff.
Head of Department:
  After completing his PhD, Dean continued as Head of Drama for a further two years, expanding the curriculum to include GCSE Drama, developing the school's links with higher education providers, and delivering his 7th annual theatre production.
  Alongside his work at Hull University, Dean has taught many classes in various learning environments. For 13 years, he was Education Director for Scene Cinema Ltd., developing and delivering programmes of study and media training sessions for students and teachers in schools, colleges and universities.

~ Grade school Drama teaching during a gap year in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.
~ Numeracy and literacy skills to young offenders on the UK Department of Justice and ACE Programmes in Hull.
~ Supply teaching, with a focus on English, Maths and Drama.
