Dean was first published in 1996 with a book on Star Wars. Much of his subsequent published writing has been academic, peer-reviewed work. In this, his primary areas of focus have been American movies and culture, science fiction cinema, women in film, and Japanese arts and culture. Some of these published works are listed below.
